The Colonel and Company started with a single character, Spyder, who appeared in my sketchbooks in the mid-1990s. Surprisingly, she has changed very little from those first sketches. Spyder graced a single set of panels I did as an art exercise and got promptly filed away.

But not forgotten.

It took a few years before I came back to the idea of creating a comic strip. When I did, I found Spyder waiting patiently right where I left her. With her images in hand, I began drawing ideas. Bold, vivid images flew from my hands. Most were horrible and promptly erased. When I realized I had more paper than erasers, things began moving forward. Rodney, Milton, the Colonel and Ulysses developed side-by-side with Spyder in my journals.

The whole process took awhile. My progress was slow, in part because my day job has demanding hours, and in part because life has it's own agenda. I spent many, many lunch hours as a recluse with a pencil ...which differed from my normal lunch hours in the fact that I had a pencil. But I digress. Having discovered the characters you'll find on this web site, I felt a deep and urgent desire to let them loose and see what happened. I'd like to thank those who have encouraged me to continue, and a special thanks to Scott Adams and Bill Mitchell for answering a few questions along the way.

And here we are.

The web site is up and running. The Lodge has vacancies and Rodney is already cooking the books. Somewhere around here I'm sure Ulysses is brewing up some tea. Having come this far, I'm looking forward to seeing where Spyder and the others take us. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. - Q.Frost
